Special Characters

Each week I will be posting article on my blog to keep you up to date with important and relevant technical information that I feel needs to be highlighted and reviewed.

Most of these points have come up during the support service sessions that I have with clients.

My goal in highlighting them here is that it will give you a quick way to refresh key points of your CAD software and help you make the most out of your Cad systems.

This week we cover: Format options and character symbols.

The MTEXT editor provides buttons to apply format options and has a pulldown menu containing the commonly used character symbols.

But what do you do if you need other characters or symbols? In Windows you can turn to the Windows Character Map.

To run simply type Character Map in at Windows Start. This will display all the characters available for a particular font. Once you find the character that you want:

  1. Pick the Select button
  2. Then pick Copy to copy the character to the clipboard.

Back in your MTEXT editor in BricsCAD you can now right click where you want to place the character and then pick Paste as Text.

Note selecting Paste will work as well, but Paste as Text will bring the character in using the current text style which is preferable. If you see a "?" mark instead of your character, then you current text style doesn't have a symbol for this character.
